SIT! DOWN! STAND!

To have a well controlled dog, the three commands are every day necessities, in and out of your home!

THE SIT

  • Hold a treat close to your dog’s nose.

  • Raise the treat above his head and slightly backwards until the dog goes into the SIT position.

  • Reward with the titbit.

  • When he is reliably going into the SIT position, introduce the word “SIT”.

  • Reward with the titbit as soon as he is in the SIT position and then finish the exercise using your “finishing command”.

THE DOWN

  • From the sit position, lower your titbit down between your dog’s front paws.

  • Move the treat slightly forward on the ground until your dog goes into the DOWN position.

  • Reward with the titbit.

  • When he is reliably going into the DOWN position, introduce the word “DOWN”.

  • Reward with the titbit as soon as he is in the DOWN position and then finish the exercise using your “finishing command”.

THE STAND

  • From the sit position hold your titbit in front of your dog’s nose.

  • Slowly move it forward in line with the dog’s nose until he is in the STAND position.

  • Reward with the titbit.

  • When he is reliably going into the STAND position, introduce the word “STAND”.

  • Reward with the titbit as soon as he is in the STAND position and then finish the exercise using your “finishing command”.
